The Path of Refugees

November 14, 2010

Every year thousands of people are forced to flee their own countries, whether due to wars, natural disasters, or similar such situations.  Following the travel patterns of these people has never been easy and the data is usually represented in statistical tables, with countries in one column and a number in the other.

However, Christian Behrens has created a program that visualizes the movements of refugees.  It is called Flight & Expulsion.  It draws its daa from the United Nations Annual Refugee Report and shows it in three different views.

The image below shows one of the views.  It is a circular network diagram, in which the slices represent countries and the lines represent the path of refugees.
